Youngsters In Scots Call

Tue, Jan 31, 2012

FIVE Rangers youngsters will make up a fifth of Ricky Sbragia's Scotland under-17 squad when the group meets next month.

The SFA youth coach named a 24-man squad for a get-together on February 13 and 14 as he finalises preparations for the under-17 European Championship in March.

Scotland will play host to three sides in late March as they aim to win a mini group involved Denmark, Lithuania and Iceland and progress to the UEFA finals in May.

And there is a strong influence from Murray Park on the squad with Liam Kelly among the goalkeepers and Stuart Urquhart again a candidate for captain among the defenders.

In midfield there are three exciting young prospects in the form of Darren Ramsay, Fraser Aird and Charlie Telfer.

Ramsay and Aird have both already had an impact at under-19 level for Rangers while Telfer is a highly regarded youngster, recently praised by the SFA's Performance Director Mark Wotte.
