LEE McCULLOCH has potentially moved a step closer to making a return to the international scene after revealing he will have discussions with new Scotland manager Craig Levein.

Lee McCullochMcCulloch announced his retirement two years ago but given the new regime at the SFA he may be in the market to make himself available again.

The former Wigan and Motherwell man has been on great form this season in a central midfield role but he feels this is the strongest area of the national side.

Already Levein has made it clear that Allan McGregor and Kris Boyd will be brought back into the set-up along with former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson.

Now McCulloch could join them but he has not yet committed himself either way.

He told rangers.co.uk: "I think I need to have a word with the gaffer and Craig Levein. The middle of the park is the strongest part of Scotland's team so there are six or seven players that are possibly younger than me that would come into the frame.

"So I don't want to say that I would come back or not. We will just have to wait and see what happens."

Scotland were drawn with holders Spain, the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Lichtenstein at the draw for the qualifying phase of the 2012 European Championships.
