THRILLED Lee McCulloch has spoken of his pride of captaining Rangers but revealed his disappointment that the honour was not completed with a victory over St Mirren.
McCulloch was installed as stand-in skipper due to Davie Weir's suspension but Rangers were held to a goal-less draw in Paisley and for the second round running will host an Ibrox replay.
He said: "I was really delighted to be captain. When the gaffer and Coisty told me before the game that I was going to be skipper for the day it was a great feeling.
"I just wish that we could have found a goal from somewhere to complete the day.
"Now we have another game which we could have done without but we will just need to put things right at Ibrox."
McCulloch reckons the poor playing surface at St Mirren Park did not help Rangers in their quest to progress.
He said: "St Mirren pressed the ball well and didn't give us much space. They were hard to break down and they tried to hit us on the break and were quite successful at times.
"On a better pitch we would have passed it more crisply and got the ball into the box more.
"We didn't work their keeper much but it was hard to get the ball wide because it was bobbling a lot. We were taking two or three touches when normally we would only take one or two so it was frustrating.
"Hopefully we will do a lot better when we get them back to Ibrox and I'm sure we will."
McCulloch believes there were benefits from the match, most notably the return of Madjid Bougherra and the second half appearances of Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd.
He said: "Getting Bougherra back is like having a new signing. It's great to have him back fit and well.
"And with Kenny and Boydy getting some game time too that was another big bonus for us.
"So these are important things for us at an important time in the season and they will be big players for us in the run-in.
"Of course we will also have Davie Weir back for Wednesday's game at Motherwell so that's important too."
