Tues 09 Feb 2010 Stevie Set To Quit Gers
STEVIE SMITH has revealed he will probably quit Rangers in the summer for the sake of getting first-team football. The full-back was recently offered a new deal by the club, despite not being a regular in Walter Smith's team.
Smith made a bright start to his Ibrox career and was the first-choice left-back under former manager Paul Le Guen. But after a pelvic injury stopped him from playing for almost 16 months, he has struggled to re-establish himself with the Light Blues. Smith featured just eight times in the last two seasons and although he has played in 12 games this term, only nine of those appearances have come as a starter. It's with great regret that he's now looking elsewhere but he admits he has to do that for the sake of his career. Smith told the Daily Record: "The club have offered me an extension but Walter Smith knows what my answer will be and it has nothing to do with money. "It's because I want to play. In an ideal world, I would stay at Rangers but playing nine or 10 games a season won't help my career. "I wasn't disappointed with the offer. In fact, I was surprised they offered me anything at all. It will be difficult to move on but I need to be playing every week. Latest News headlines
