Sun 28 Feb 2010 I Thought We'd Never Win
Andrew Dickson reports from Ibrox WALTER SMITH admits he thought Rangers were never going to score against Celtic - and was thrilled to see them sneak victory with virtually the last kick of the ball. Mo Edu scored deep into injury time to edge it 1-0 for the hosts and it was a thoroughly deserved victory that takes them 10 points clear at the top of the SPL.
They also showed a poor level of sportsmanship, with Diomansy Kamara particularly guilty in the final few minutes. Even so, they were fairly sound defensively until Edu finally found a way past Artur Boruc seconds from full-time to spark wild celebrations at Ibrox. The triumph means manager Smith has now recorded 26 Old Firm victories, the same as former Old Firm bosses Scot Symon and Jock Stein. He was ecstatic as he ran down the touchline after Edu's scrambled strike in scenes reminiscent of when Erik Bo Andersen scored a famous Gers derby double in 1997. And after the game he admitted: "I thought we weren't going to get the goal. We played very well in the second half especially after struggling a bit in the first. "Our possession of the ball wasn't good but we came on to a game and started far better after the break. Latest News headlines
