Weds 03 Mar 2010 Credit Where Credit Is Due
by Lindsay Herron WALTER SMITH is frustrated that his side have not been given credit for their performance in securing a vital victory in last Sunday's Old Firm clash. The Rangers boss reckons his side produced some excellent football in the second half of the derby which was eventually won by Mo Edu's last gasp strike. However, he has bemoaned the fact that very little has been made of the way Rangers played with a lot of the emphasis on the performance of referee Dougie McDonald who In the build-up to the game a Celtic "source" leaked a story to the BBC that Celtic were concerned about refereeing standards and were expressing these concerns to the SFA. Smith told RangersTV: "I think we showed we can play well and I'm disappointed that this never gets mentioned. "All we ever hear is that Rangers dig out a result and do this and that but in that second half we played very well, passed the ball well and created a number of chances "We kept a team that have tremendous attacking players back in their own half albeit we had the benefit when Celtic went down to 10 men halfway through that period." Much of the post-match discussion was on the dismissal of Celtic captain Scott Brown but again Smith points out that a huge decision went against Rangers and there has been little mention of it. It looked a clear penalty when Andreas Hinkel brought down Edu in the box but the incident has been scarcely discussed. Latest News headlines
