MADJID BOUGHERRA'S time in Glasgow has been nothing if not eventful.

Madjid Bougherra and England's Wayne RooneyThe French Algerian has finished each of his two seasons with the club as a title winner and spent the summer playing international football.

At the end of the 2009/10 season he featured in all three of Algeria's fixtures at the World Cup in South Africa.

In the process he helped shut out Wayne Rooney and England but ultimately saw his country knocked out of a group that also contained Ibrox team mate Mo Edu.

It was the final part of a season that saw Bougherra make his Champions League bow and mark his first campaign in the competition with a stunning strike against Stuttgart.

He also grabbed the club's Goal of the Season award for a brilliant solo goal against Dundee Utd that put the icing on a 7-1 win at Ibrox.

The previous season Bougherra had shown his importance to Walter Smith's side quickly after the Ibrox boss made a £2.5million move to bring him north from Charlton in July 2008.

The Algerian international arrived with a reputation as a versatile defender or midfielder who favoured the centre back role.

The French-born star was also being chased by West Brom at the time but Rangers struck a deal and the player signed a four-year contract.

Born in Longvic, France, Bougherra is well known for his uncompromising style at the back, as well as his willingness to bring the ball out of defence.Madjid Bougherra

He made his name with FC Gueugnon and then joined Crewe Alexandra on loan at the end of January 2006.

Upon Crewe's relegation from the Championship (after playing 11 games and scoring once), he joined Sheffield Wednesday - then bossed by Paul Sturrock - with the Owls parting with around £300,000.

He made 29 appearances for Wednesday before moving to Charlton in January 2007.

And when he became available Smith made his move to bring in a partner for Davie Weir and a replacement for Carlos Cuellar.

It proved to be a spectacularly successful bit of business for the Gers boss as his new signing quickly settled in to the style of the Scottish game and became a fans' favourite.

A string of top drawer performances saw supporters select him as their player of the year in a debut season that saw him lift both the Scottish Cup and SPL title.

Speculation linking Bougherra with a return south of the border has been a constant presence throughout his stay in Glasgow.

But having played a major role for club and country Bougherra has consistently insisted his satisfaction with how his move to Rangers has gone.
