Same Again For Gers

Written by

RANGERS go with the same team which beat East Fife on Tuesday as they prepare to make their Third Division debut at Peterhead this lunchtime.

Manager Ally McCoist was delighted with the manner of the 4-0 League Cup victory over the men from Methil four days ago.

As such, his only tinkering has been on the bench and he sticks with the first XI he sent out to perform at Ibrox in midweek.

Neil Alexander starts in goal and has a back three of Kirk Broadfoot, Carlos Bocanegra and Dorin Goian in front of him.

Lee Wallace and Andrew Little will operate on the two flanks with Ian Black and Lewis Macleod teaming up in the centre of midfield.

Lee McCulloch will lead a three-pronged attack and will be assisted up front by Dean Shiels and Barrie McKay as Gers look to go top of the table on day one of the league campaign.

New second-choice keeper Scott Gallacher is among the substitutes and he is joined on the touchline by Kevin Kyle, Fran Sandaza, Kyle Hutton and Robbie Crawford.

This is Rangers’ first trip to Balmoor Stadium and only the second competitive meeting of the clubs.

Their only previous meeting came in the Scottish Cup in 2006 and it ended 5-0 to the Light Blues at Ibrox, with Kris Boyd scoring a hat-trick on his debut.

RANGERS: Alexander; Broadfoot, Goian, Bocanegra; Little, Macleod, Black, Wallace; McKay, McCulloch, Shiels.

SUBS: Gallacher, Kyle, Sandaza, Hutton, Crawford.
