Today we look at a couple of signings from the last decade, the sale of one of the club's best products to the Premiership, a win over Hamilton from 2009 and a match from the 70s against our Scottish Cup visitors tomorrow night.
2001 - It was eleven years ago today that Dick Advocaat continued his raid on the Dutch Eredivisie by signing Georgian striker Shota Arveladze from Ajax for £2million. During his time at Rangers, fans favourite Arveladze won a treble in 2002/03 and double in 2004/05. In total, marksman Shota scored 57 goals in 132 games before moving on to play and manage in Turkey after a spell as assistant manager to Louis Van Gaal at AZ.
2003 - Nine years ago Rangers recruited the services of Emerson, the first Brazilian to sign for the club (Emilson Cribari being the second recently). Emerson, who chose Rangers ahead of both Celtic and Wolves, was only to be at the club for a matter of months before leaving to continue his nomadic playing career which saw him play for 14 clubs across an 18 year career.
1973 - On this day in the year originally thought to be the clubs centenary, a team of youngsters took on tomorrow night's opponents Falkirk on league duty and cruised to a 5:1 win. Whilst 17-year-olds Lewis Macleod and Barrie McKay are expected to feature tomorrow, it was a previously unknown 16 year old Alex O'Hara who stole the show 39 years ago.
Rangers rested Peter McCloy, John Greig and Derek Parlane for the match and brought in Stewart Kennedy in goal, George Donaldson at right half and O'Hara up front. O'Hara opened the scoring on his debut on 19 minutes, before the McLean, Forsyth and a late Conn double sealed an easy win.
2003 – On the same day that Emerson became the first Brazilian to play for Rangers, the man he was brought in to replace, Barry Ferguson was completing his move to English Premiership side Blackburn Rovers for £7.5million.
2009 – Three years ago today, Rangers defeated Hamilton 4:1 thanks to two goals in each half for Steven Whittaker and Kris Boyd. Towards the end of the match, a young Gregg Wylde, who is now enjoying first team football at Bolton made his top team debut.
