WE look at some of the memorable moments that have happened on this day in the remarkable 140 year history of Rangers.

Today take a look back through some of the transfer deadline day signings the club has made through the years, a 1977 draw with a Swiss team in Europe and a double win over Celtic from '55 and '08.

Rangers have signed a series of different players on the very last day of the transfer window, who have gone on to have different levels of success at the club. Throughout the years, the club has brought in Olivier Bernard, 'Pippo' Maniero and Francis Jeffers (2005), Sasa Papac (2006), Amdy Faye and Steven Naismith (2007) and most recently, Richard Foster (2010) on the last day of the window.

1977 – Rangers were in European action on this day in 1977 against Swiss team Young Boys Berne in the Cup Winners' Cup. The match ended 2:2 with goals coming from Derek Johnstone ('43) and Gordon Smith ('73). Johnstone had given the team the lead early on before Berne equalised and subsequently went on to take the lead through a 'Bomber' Jackson own goal before Smith brought the teams level.

1955 –Only four days after a crushing 4:1 defeat to Celtic at Ibrox, Rangers re-grouped and put in a stunning display to win 4:0 at Parkhead through goals from Sammy Baird ('4 '49), Billy Simpson ('77) and Max Murray ('80). The Evening Times waxed lyrical about the performance of a "vexatious" Baird in particular the day after the match and ran with the headline “McColl, Young, Rae – They Reduced Celtic to Mediocrity”.

2008 – In more recent times, Rangers had another marvellous away victory over Celtic on their own turf, recording a spectacular 4:2 win, the first time in fourteen years we'd scored four goals at Celtic Park. The goals came from Cousin ('37) a double for Kenny Miller ('52 '79) and a memorable long range goal from Pedro Mendes.
