Little Wins Ginger Boots

Written by

ANDY LITTLE has been announced as the leading scorer in the Scottish Football League in August and landed himself a new pair of boots as a result.

The Northern Ireland hitman had a great month and scored five times in the Third Division, netting a hat-trick against East Stirlingshire and single strikes against Peterhead and Berwick.

In turn, he has been given the first Ginger Boot of the Month prize by SFL sponsors Irn Bru for his efforts.

Little has also found the net this season against Brechin and Falkirk and currently sits on eight strikes for the campaign.

The 23-year-old said: “I was delighted with the way I started the season, especially after having 11 weeks without doing very much at all.

“I was surprised to get straight into the team having not done a lot of training but I loved it and to be so involved was great.

“Starting eight games in a row and playing 90 minutes in more or less all of them was a really good thing for me. It was massive and I took a lot from that.

“August was a good month for me and the goals I got were a big bonus. I had kept myself in decent nick but it was still really pleasing to find the net as much as I did.

“I felt my sharpness picked up quite well after I struggled with that a wee bit at first and I’m really happy to get this prize.”

Little is currently out with a foot injury but is optimistic of picking up from where he left off when he returns to action.

He added: “As soon as I’m fit again, I don’t see why I can’t continue the run I was on before. That will certainly be my aim.

“I want to play in every single game it’s possible for me to feature in and to keep chipping in with goals.

“That’s an important thing I’ve brought to the team in the early stages of the campaign and it is something I obviously enjoy. I’m full of confidence at the moment.”
