Young Scots Win Again

Written by

BARRIE McKAY and Lewis Macleod both played the full 90 minutes as Scotland’s under-19s edged into the elite round of the European Championship qualifiers.

Ricky Sbragia’s side won 1-0 against Romania at the Falkirk Stadium, with John Herron getting the crucial goal shortly before half-time.

Indeed it was McKay who set up the strike with some clever footwork and a good through ball giving the Celtic player his shooting chance.

Both Macleod and McKay had both featured in the 4-0 win over Armenia at Hamilton on Tuesday, with each man scoring in the second period of an easy win.

And they were involved from start to finish once again last night as the Eastern Europeans were condemned to defeat.

Yesterday’s contest was much tighter but the home side’s victory ensures they will progress to the next phase with Switzerland.

Those countries meet on Sunday afternoon in Falkirk to decide who wins the four-team group and who goes through as the second-placed side.
