Honouring A Legend

Written by

RANGERS Hall of Fame member Harold Davis was a special guest at today’s game and the Ibrox legend helped conduct the Rising Stars draw at half time.

Davis, signed by Scot Symon for £1,750 in October 1956, is renowned as one of the greatest defenders ever to play for the Light Blues.

A giant of a man and a fierce competitor he won the title in his first season at Rangers and went on to claim three more in his time at the club.

But behind the exploits on the pitch as part of the legendary Rangers teams of the 1950s and 60s is an incredible story of war time heroics as a soldier with the famous Black Watch regiment in the Korean War, a tale told in the new autobiography Tougher Than Bullets.

An extract from his superb book was included in today’s ‘Ready’ matchday programme with Davis revealing the influence of fellow Rangers stalwart Davie Kinnear during his courageous battle to recover from near fatal injuries.

Tougher Than Bullets, by Harold Davis with Paul Smith, is published by Mainstream and available now price £17.99.
