Too Soon For Temps

Written by

ALLY McCOIST has conceded defeat in his bid to have David Templeton fit for tomorrow’s League Cup tie – but still hopes the winger might be available to play this weekend.

The former Hearts player returned to full training yesterday after six weeks out with an ankle injury he sustained in last month’s 0-0 draw with Annan Athletic at Galabank.

McCoist had hoped he might be able to unleash the 23-year-old on Inverness in the quarter-fianl tie at Ibrox this midweek.

But he is resigned to going into that game without him and Sebastien Faure, who is still out with the groin injury that stopped him from facing Clyde on Sunday.

Templeton could be in the squad that meets Alloa in the Scottish Cup four days from now in Glasgow.

But again it remains to be seen if he’ll be ready on time for that and it might be the case that the Third Division meeting with Peterhead on November 10 is a more realistic target.

McCoist said: “This game has come just a little too quickly for Temps, although he’s back training, back running and looking okay.

"He was involved in the boxes today and felt a little bit of tightness but that's nothing to do with the injury. That just comes after being out for a few weeks.

“I’d be hopeful of some good news regarding him nearer the end of the week. I’ve lost my argument with the medical staff for tomorrow and I don’t mind losing the odd fight.

“I’ll win one of these days though – if you ask the medics they might say the Alloa game is a bit too soon for David as well but that’s not what I’m saying.”

Although Faure is sidelined, McCoist is grateful he has other options in the right-back area in Anestis Argyriou, Chris Hegarty and the fit-again Darren Cole.

He added: “Sebastien is still struggling with his groin but we saw Hegs come in and do very well at Clyde.”
