Boyd Salutes Gers Fans

Written by

FORMER Ibrox striker Kris Boyd has saluted the Rangers fans and says it will taste so sweet WHEN the Light Blues are back at the top of the Scottish game.

Boyd has hurt and horrified like every supporter when the horrendous events from last February onwards plunged the club into an extraordinary crisis.

The disastrous tenure of Craig Whyte plunged the club into administration and subsequently liquidation of the oldco when HMRC blocked a CVA proposed by new owners Charles Green and his consortium.

Then Rangers were hammered with one punitive sanction after another and the vitriol and hatred aimed at the club was quite jaw-dropping at times.

The one-time Ibrox goals king feels the supporters have been extraordinary throughout this process and he insists that not only will Rangers be back they will be back stronger than ever.

Portland Timbers striker Boyd, who has been training with his old club to keep in shape as he waits for the resumption of the MLS, said: “The support has been unbelievable. I think they have shown over the past 18 months that they are by far the best fans in Scotland.

“They could quite easily have walked away because they were in the dark a lot of the time but they have got behind the club and I think everyone connected with Rangers will thank the fans for everything that they have done.

“From Rangers’ point of view it has brought everyone together and once they come out of this and get back to the level they should be at there will be a lot of smiling faces.

“As a fan looking in it has not been great to see what has happened to the club in the last year or 18 months but hopefully they are on the road to recovery now.

“Over in the States you don’t get a lot of coverage and we are eight hours behind so it was difficult to watch the games too.

“Hopefully they have turned the corner and Rangers climb the leagues.”

The 29-year-old has also been struck by the interest in the “Rangers story” in the north-west of the United States further accentuating the global reach of the events at the club.

He said: “Rangers are a massive name worldwide so there is interest in what has been happening and the people of Portland were asking questions which is an indication of that.

“I wasn’t fully aware of what was happening but what I could tell them is that Rangers will be back. It might take a couple of years but they will be back and once they are everyone connected with the club will have a big smile on their face.”
