Legends Held To Draw

LEGENDS: The Alll-stars are looking to improve in Hong Kong LEGENDS: The Alll-stars are looking to improve in Hong Kong

THE RANGERS All-stars were held to a frustrating draw by United Services Recreation Club in their opening match at the Hong Kong Sevens.

The Light Blues had a host of chances in the two halves of seven minutes but could not take any of them.

And, indeed, team organiser Andy Goram had to make a terrific block save to stop a disappointing game turn into a disastrous one.

Big Marvin Andrews had a close-range shot saved in two minutes while Jorg Albertz had a left foot drive turned around the post.

Albertz was looking for a chance to blast one from distance but he always seemed to be closed down and it was a bit frustrating for lone striker Michael Mols who was tightly marked.

Alex Rae had a couple of chance in the second period while Charlie Miller forced a decent save out of the USRC keeper but it finished in a stalemate.

Rae said: “We’re disappointed because we should have won that game. We had enough chances but took the wrong option at times.

“I think we should have been looking to play passes rather than shoot at times but we can work on that.

“We have two more games tomorrow so hopefully we will improve and qualify.”

Earlier in the night, Rangers physiotherapist Stevie Walker guested for KFC Tokyo.

The Rangers All-stars play their remaining group games tomorrow when they meet the KCC Veterans and then the holders Ajax, who defeated KCC 3-1 to top the group thanks to a Kenneth Perez hat-trick.

The Rangers youngsters also get going tomorrow when they play all three of their group matches and they are all played while most of Scotland will be sleeping.

We’ll have all the details right here on the official site.
