Ibrox Hosts Asian Final

Written by

The Scottish Ethnic Minority Sports Association (SEMSA) in partnership with Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life and Rangers Football Club are proud to once again host the UK Asian Football Championships in Glasgow this weekend.

Now in its 15th year, the event has successfully raised the profile of Asians in football at all levels of the game.

Seven teams from across England and one from Scotland have qualified to play in the tournament.  Preliminary games are played at Glasgow Green Football Centre today and tomorrow with the Final being held at Ibrox Stadium on Sunday, 8th September.

Event organiser Kash Taank commented: “I am delighted that this year we celebrate our 15th anniversary.

“It is testimony to the efforts of the SEMSA volunteers and their continued dedication to provide sporting opportunities that we have reached this milestone. I remain grateful for both the Glasgow clubs for their support over the years.

“This year we are delighted to return to Ibrox Stadium, home of Rangers Football Club, whose support for the event has been as strong as when we first started.”

Rangers Chief Executive Craig Mather said: “Rangers Football Club is delighted to host the UK Asian Football Championships Final once again at Ibrox Stadium.

“This event truly demonstrates the universal appeal of football and the power it has to bring people together from different cultures and backgrounds and I am sure the tournament will be a fantastic success in showcasing and promoting young Asian footballers from all over the UK.”

The UK Asian Football Championships Final will be held at Ibrox Stadium on Sunday, 8th September – kick-off 2.00pm.  Entry to the game is FREE.
