RANGERS take on East Fife this afternoon and we have live match coverage on your club website below:
Rangers and East Fife contested the 1950 Scottish Cup Final at Hampden, in front of almost 105,000 spectators. Rangers lifted the trophy after a 3-0 victory, thanks to two goals from Willie Thornton and one, in the first minute of the match, from Willie Findlay.
East Fife emerged victorious from a league visit to Ibrox in October 1973, when Jim Hamilton scored the only goal of the game.
Billy Simpson is Rangers top scorer in league matches between the sides with seven goals. Derek Grierson is next on six, with all his goals coming in five consecutive matches between October 1952 and October 1954.
Rangers last meeting with East Fife before the current campaign occurred in the League Cup last season with the Light Blues running out 4-0 winners, with Lee McCulloch helping himself to a double.
Scot Symon guided the Methil club through the most successful period in the club’s history in the late 40s/early 50s and was succeeded in the hotseat by former Ibrox team mate Jerry Dawson. Former Gers assistant manager, Alex Totten, also had a spell in charge in the early 90s and Gordon Durie was in the dugout when the teams met last season.
Durie is one of a number of players who have represented both clubs. Others include Sammy Cox, Harold Davis, Norrie Martin, Willie Johnston, Quinton Young, Robert Prytz, Scott Nisbet and Davie Kirkwood.
