Lee Signs Season-Long Deal

Written by

LEE ROBINSON has agreed to join Rangers until the end of the season and he is excited to be back at the club for a second spell.

The 28-year-old shotstopper started his career in the Murray Park youth ranks, playing alongside the likes of Steven Smith and Ross McCormack, and with Cammy Bell currently injured his decision to return to the Light Blues will please manager Ally McCoist.

Steve Simonsen has featured in recent games against Clyde and Dumbarton but Robinson, from Sunderland, is another experienced goalkeeper who can slot in between the posts having enjoyed success at his previous clubs Queen of the South and Raith Rovers.

After making just one first-team substitute appearance against Hearts on 7 May 2006 at Ibrox, Robinson left Rangers in the summer of 2009 and moved to Kilmarnock and then Queens where he won the Second Division title and the Challenge Cup in 2012/13.

He then enjoyed a brief stint in Sweden with Östersunds before he returned to Scottish football and helped Raith Rovers win the Challenge Cup in April.

Lee admits that when he left Rangers five years ago he never expected to be back but he is thrilled to have been given the chance and it is one he intends to grasp with both hands.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to get it sorted. It went on a little bit but it’s great to be back.

“I left five years ago and I always wanted to come back but I didn’t think it would happen. There’s a few people I know who are still here such as Kris Boyd, Lee McCulloch, Steven Smith and a lot of the staff as well.

“So it’s great to be back and it seems like the same place. It’s a massive season for the club and it’s a hard league, especially with the teams that are in the Championship this year.

“Hopefully I can play a part in it and we can get Rangers back where they should be.”
