Danilo: Patience Key To Return

DANILO insists it was a relief to net in his first league start in a year in the 6-0 defeat of Kilmarnock.

The Brazilian striker was given the nod by gaffer Philippe Clement and fired home Ianis Hagi’s inch-perfect pass to add to James Tavernier’s opener.

Further goals from Hamza Igamane, Vaclav Cerny and a double from Cyriel Dessers completed the rout.

Danilo says he was emotional after firing past Robby McCrorie and believes the visitors couldn’t live with the Gers’ movement in the final third.

Speaking to RangersTV, he said: “It was my first league start since last December and it is always special to score.

“Since I have been back from my setback, I have put in a lot of work, I had to be patient for the right time to come back in.

“I was confident the right time would come and I am glad it was at Ibrox and it was a relief to score.

“The emotion came out in my celebration. I have been too hard on myself sometimes.

“I have worked hard to get to this point and I am so grateful to Ianis Hagi to give me a great ball at the right time to score.

“It was a great night and I think the lads did an amazing job.

“The gaffer said to be sharp from the start, push them back and I think we did that.

“We enjoyed being on the ball, everyone was moving and we did a good job and that helped get the result.

“The attacking players have really good connections.

“Hamza and I try to speak together, he is learning English and that makes it easier. He is a great guy.

“I played with Vaclav Cerny before and I have a connection with Ianis and we all like to link up and move.

“I think that made it more difficult for Kilmarnock. If you are static it is easier to defend against you.

“We all played well and we showed our qualities, so it was nice to get the win and show how good players we are.”

It’s now just one defeat in the last ten games in all competitions since the 1-0 defeat at Rugby Park.

A trip up the A9 on Sunday is the next Premiership test for the Light Blues, but Danilo believes the squad will be up for the battle.

He added: “If you win 6-0 it is always a good atmosphere. We need to build on this and we are already thinking about Sunday and Ross County.

“We know it will be a tough game, but if we keep playing like we did against Kilmarnock, we know the qualities we have.

“We have to be on the front foot and whatever comes our way.”
