Full Focus On Sunday's Rematch For Gerrard

STEVEN GERRARD is taking tonight’s point in Perth and putting his full focus onto Sunday’s Scottish Cup rematch with St Johnstone.

The pair played out a 1-1 draw at McDiarmid Park tonight, with Gers opening the scoring through Scott Wright before conceding a Liam Craig penalty late into injury time.

Speaking to RangersTV, Gerrard said: "We'll take the point and move on. Coming here tonight, you could tell clearly with my decisions before the game, during the game and at the very end of the game, it was all about the weekend.

"I wanted to give people an opportunity tonight and we nearly took maximum points by not playing well. We have no complaints in-terms of the results - it is a shame we didn't see the game out and I think we made some poor decisions in the final moments of the game but I think all-in-all, we will take the point and move on.

"It was a penalty and we were probably lucky not to concede another. Our keeper has probably been a little busier than theirs, so we have no complaints."

There were positives for the manager to take away from the match, and he continued: "The main positive tonight was about getting Tav some minutes and up to speed so he is ready for the weekend and giving some players opportunities who have been around the squad so they are ready if called upon at the weekend.

"Scott Wright has done everything he needs to do since he has come in the door. He scored tonight and showed flashes tonight throughout his performance but again, we have been talking to him about getting numbers in his game and he has got one.

"It should have been the winner had we been better in our game management and seen the game out, so it is disappointing and it is a shame we haven't taken three points.

"But all-in, we have no complaints with the scoreline.

"Every decision I made since Celtic, even subs tonight, I made decisions for the weekend rather than what the game needed tonight.

"My team selection was more about what the weekend needed rather than tonight, so all-in-all, I am content and I am satisfied and we have got everyone healthy and fresh for the weekend.

"We are looking forward to it and the weekend was always the priority. As soon as Celtic finished, I was more interested in St Johnstone at the weekend than tonight.

"It was about just dealing with tonight and a lot of the decisions if not all of them were geared for the weekend."
