Gio Praises Team Fighting Spirit

GIO van Bronckhorst tonight praised his side for their fighting spirit as they overcame some wild weather and a stuffy Livingston to claim three Scottish Premiership points at Ibrox.

Substitute Scott Arfield netted 15 minutes from time in the Govan monsoon to finally overcome the visitors’ resistance and earn the victory.

Speaking after the game to RangersTV, the manager explained: "I'm very proud as it was a difficult game in very difficult circumstances. If you see the chances we created in the first half and in the second half, but you don't score, it's going to be difficult as the time ticks on.

"But I am happy with the subs we could do - Scott has been out for a while but he could play the last stage of the game and he changed it, so I am really pleased for Scott, pleased for the team as we kept fighting to win the game and that is what we did, so the three points today was big for us."

"It was good to have [Arfield] in the squad and also able to put him in the game - it was the same for Kemar and the same for Ryan as well, so it is looking good as the injured players are coming back and for the weekend, we have Joe back and also Ryan Kent, so I am really pleased."

Van Bronckhorst was equally pleased with the way his team kept going to get the three points, and added: "It is not easy because when you play against the low block, you need to be very accurate in the passing, you need to be accurate in the movements and the speed of play we wanted, it was very difficult because of the circumstances.

"That is why we were struggling a little to find the spaces, but I think we created enough chances to win the game so I was really pleased when at least one chance went into the goal because that made us the winners today."
