Hagi Looks To Rebuild His Fitness

IANIS HAGI insists he is pushing himself to the limit in training as he hopes to play a big role in the remainder of Rangers’ season.

The Romanian made his return from a year-long knee injury just a few short months ago, slowly rebuilding his fitness with substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership.

Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s visit of Aberdeen in league action, Hagi commented: “ACL injuries are no joke. They’re really hard. You go through so many emotions, and once you’re back, most players are at their peaks in the season. I’ve basically started from zero and it’s the beginning of my pre-season.

“There’s not much time for training because you play every three or four days, and you need to deliver when you’re on the pitch. It’s a tricky one where you need to fight through it and find minutes. I’ve been in constant communication with the manager, and at the same time you want to win. I’ve been trying to push through it and push myself to the limit to where I want to be.

“I’ve been building up my minutes, but it feels like I’m enjoying my football more and more. It’s unfortunate because the season finishes really quickly, but with these last five games, and the two with the national team, hopefully I can make the most of it.”

The Light Blues commence their post-split fixture schedule with the visit of Aberdeen to Ibrox, and Hagi says he’s eager to show his qualities on the pitch once again.

He added: “My relationship with the manager is really good. He knows what type of player I am and what I can bring to the football club. I know I’ve been here for three-and-a-half years, but I’ve been injured for a year, and I know what I can bring to this team. I bring goals, assists, and even though I don’t always bring numbers, I bring creativity. My biggest quality is my vision and knowledge on the football pitch. I need to fight back fitness wise, but I haven’t lost my qualities.

“It will be a big opportunity for players like myself coming back from big injuries. It’s an opportunity to see where we’re at. You just want to win the jersey, that’s nothing new for the players around here and even the newer players, the ones that came in January feel in their own skin. We need to build on these five games and finish strong.”
