MALKY THOMSON says he was pleased with the patience that Rangers B showed to see off Partick Thistle in the Glasgow Cup last night.
The Light Blues kicked off their cup campaign at the Rangers Training Centre, netting five unanswered goals after the interval to cap off a positive display.
Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, Thomson said of the display: “It was a good team performance first and foremost.
“I think we played in the first half against a well organised Partick Thistle team; they had experience not only on the pitch but also on the sideline with Craig Dargo whom I played with at Inverness.
“We had to be patient and keep moving the ball, but I thought we dominated in the second half and managed to get goals.
“There were a lot of things that we were doing that was good, but it didn’t culminate in scoring goals.
“There was a lot of experience on the pitch and we knew we had to keep breaching their backline and creating chances.
“It’s like any game that you play in: getting the first goal always gives people a bit of confidence and creates a more relaxed atmosphere through the team.
“You saw that when we managed to score the goal, then obviously we ran away with it.”
The showing was punctuated by a hat-trick for Findlay Curtis, who continues his excellent goalscoring form at B Team level this season.
Similarly, there was a special moment for 15-year-old Oliver Goodbrand who was rewarded with his Gers B debut in the second half.
He added: “If we look at the B Team and what we’re about; bringing together the experienced players with the younger ones to play around them.
“Even if you look at the substitution when Oliver went on, Robbie Fraser is giving him his backing and giving him encouragement. The environment is really good.
“There’s a lot to be said that we kept a clean sheet tonight. I thought the backline were excellent tonight; we’ve asked Leyton Grant to play in an unfamiliar position at right-back.
“Leon King came in and conducted himself really well, and he gave us that platform to build on.
“Findlay scored a hat-trick and that’s now 12 goals that he’s scored in 15 games.
“He’s an enthusiastic character and he’s a fun person to be around.
“He plays the game with an enthusiasm, and he always gets a chance in any game that he plays, but to score a hat-trick is something special.”
