Malky Thomson Praises Professional Performance

MALKY THOMSON praised the professional performance from his side as they progressed in the Scottish Cup with an 11-0 victory over Stirling University this afternoon.

With seven different goalscorers and a dominant display at Broadwood, the Gers boss said he had ‘nothing but praise’ for his side as they booked their place in tomorrow’s fifth round draw.

Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “What was pleasing was the professionalism right through it, I thought we played well as a team. We changed the shape a bit and they stuck to the plan. There weren't really any real individual performances there, but I think collectively it was really good which was pleasing.

“We are professional every day that we train, we are always learning and always developing and today was a real professional performance in a sense that they kept their shape and they were patient.

“I think the way that they played and the manner in the full week in preparation was good and then going into this game they were excellent so nothing but praise for them again but that is that game gone and we need to now focus on Hearts next Sunday.”

Thomson was delighted with the impact of the full squad, and was particularly pleased for youngsters Jodi McLeary, Kirsty MacLean and Emma Watson who all had more valuable minutes with the first-team squad.

He continued: “Jodi gets a hat-trick and that is great for her and her development to do that. I think there was a bit of responsibility given the young ones that played there today. They met that responsibility and that challenge and performed really well alongside the older ones.

“All of the girls know that it is a squad and we will utilise the squad throughout the full season, we are going to go into a run of 12 games in a short period of time so it is really important that every squad member is ready for selection.”
