Jo Potter: Consistency Is Key

JO POTTER wants her side to keep their consistency as they prepare to resume their SWPL campaign this weekend.

The Light Blues are back in league action following the international break as they take on Hibs having drawn their last two matches.

Speaking to RangersTV to preview the clash in the capital, the head coach wants her side to get back to winning ways heading into March with games in three different competitions to come in the coming weeks as they target success towards the end of the season.

She commented: “It is huge for us. Nearer and nearer towards the split you see these games creeping up that everybody wants to be a part of and the pressure builds a little bit more.

“It is really important that we keep our consistency. We keep plugging away at everything we have been doing.

“Working on our performances and putting things right that haven’t been quite right in previous games, but also harnessing the really good stuff that we have been doing.

“There has been some really good bits of play and performances in our previous weeks so it is making sure that we are continuing to push and keep high standards. Keep producing performances that are going to get points on the board.”

“It is tough, when you are playing a team away two weeks in a row. It is difficult for both teams really.

“I think the same battles happen both ways. You can't really change too much, there might be one or two things that do change but to play the same team twice in a row is difficult, especially on a limited squad.

“We will work hard, this week especially it is tough when you have not got all the players back in until just before the weekend so we have got a short turnaround to do our work, but we will get it done and we will make sure that we are good to go on Sunday.”

The former Lioness has provided an injury update ahead of the match with Kirsty Howat, Kirsty Maclean, Libby Bance and Rachel McLauchlan all absent from the team in recent weeks.

She added: “It has been a long road for Rachel and Kirsty [Howat] particularly. Rachel has had a niggly injury that we thought we could rehab her but unfortunately, she ended up having a knee operation to sort that out.

“She should be out for another couple of weeks but we are hopefully going to see her in the next month or so, same with Kirsty, she had a knee injury as well.

“Two very innocuous things that happened, non-contact and Kirsty Maclean is very similar. Another little knee injury, the meniscus, again non-contact and nobody around.

“These are injuries that we are looking that have affected our starting 11 quite a bit, same with Libby. I thought she came in and she done an absolutely excellent job for us.

“She had a hamstring injury, again she had nobody around her at one point.

“These are stuff that coming into those last couple of weeks where we were really light on the ground and you have got four big players missing throughout the squad let alone the starting 11 can have a big impact.

“However I thought our squad has been excellent at being able to manage that and step in and step up into roles and deliver some excellent performances.

“We are not going to see Kirsty Maclean anytime soon unfortunately. Hopefully we will see Libby back first and then dripping in Rachel and Kirsty after that and then a month or so down the line we will be looking to see Kirsty Maclean back in action.”
