Steven Gerrard Praises Really Strong Performance

STEVEN GERRARD feels his side’s victory over Hibernian was fully merited with the Champions turning in another ‘really strong’ performance.

Gerrard watched Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent hit stunning goals either side of half-time, and while Kevin Nisbet pulled one back for the visitors, Gerrard was delighted overall with what his men gave him.

"I thought for large periods of the game, again, we were really strong,” Gerrard told RangersTV. “I thought we deserved the win over the course of the 90 minutes.

"The first half an hour of the game, we played with a lot of control and a lot of style, and we deserved to take the lead.

"It was a good goal from Joe Aribo and then I thought the last 15 minutes of the first half, we didn't finish the half really well at all.

"So we needed to reset that in the second half. Again, we came out strong, Ryan scored a world-class goal to take the points away from them, but again, we finished the second half a little bit open, a little bit passive and the final moments of the game became complicated on the back of that.

"But, all-in-all, it was another strong win."

The manager continued on: "It is quite easy to reset it once you have got them looking at you at half time. It is difficult whilst the game is going on as you are relying on your leaders out there to really manage the game a little bit differently.

"But we had some real passages of play today where we played some lovely football. Hibs are a good team and they have got good players, and they are well-drilled and set-up well, and I think you have to play really well to get a result from them.

"The boys deserve credit, but going into next week, the final stages of the first half and the final stages of the second half, we have to be much better and manage the game better."

He also glanced an eye towards next weekend’s Old Firm Scottish Cup tie back here at Ibrox, adding: "We have had some real, good training time from the players. We have got a good week building into it - both teams have - so there are certainly no excuses from a preparation point of view.

"We will give the lads a day off tomorrow and then we will get to work, prepare them, give them a game plan and have them ready for the weekend.

"It is a fantastic game, a really mouth-watering tie and one that we are really looking forward to.

"I was really pleased with a lot of our performance today, but just from my point of view, it is important we maintain standards for all of the first half and all of the second half, as when you are coming up against better teams, you might have more complications."
