ARCHIE STEVENS: Hungry to continue pushing for first-team opportunities

ARCHIE STEVENS says he's hungry to continue pushing for first-team opportunities after netting for Rangers B in this afternoon's emphatic victory over Derby County.

The 18-year-old winger was a second half substitute for Philippe Clement's side in the friendly clash against Birmingham City last month.

And he has started the season in fine fettle for Gers B, netting in the SPFL Trust Trophy victory over Bo'ness United before adding to his tally with the opening goal today.

Speaking to RangersTV after this afternoon's win, the teenager commented: "I want to perform well and continue improving as a player.

"I want to get round the other side of the building, both in training and games. I want to continue performing to a good standard and hopefully the rest will come.

"The gaffer likes using young players, so he's always watching the B Team.

"You're always being watched, even in training. You need to treat every day the same, and have the desire and purpose to get round to the first-team side of the building.

"I'm going into my third season so I've done two years. I've enjoyed every minute and hopefully I can keep pushing on.

"I feel like one of the more experienced players in the B Team and I'm loving it.

"The Birmingham game? It was brilliant. My family came down as well so it was a great moment for us all.

"To get minutes for the first-team is what you want, and hopefully I can get some more if I keep working hard."

Stevens was a standout performer as the Under-18s lifted the Scottish Youth Cup last term.

Having celebrated his 18th birthday at the start of the year, the Englishman is keen to further develop his game with regular goals and assists.

He added: "I didn't get as many goals as I wanted to last year, so I'm aiming for more this season.

"It's been going well so far and hopefully I can keep tallying them up.

"Goals have always been a part of my game, but I didn't have as many as I wanted to last year.

"It's something that tends to polish off a good performance from myself so hopefully I can grab a fair few this year.

"We do it a lot in training. It's about seeing the moment, taking it, and not being afraid to have a go.

"It was a positive game and there's a lot to take out if it. There were a few moments that we could clean up on, but that's a few wins on the trot now.

"We're coming well together as a group and there's been a few positive results."
