DEFENDER Ben Godfrey hopes he can play his part in bringing success to Rangers after joining the club on season-long loan from Serie A side Atalanta.
The 28-year-old wants to show his quality, and bring experience to the defence, as he makes the move to Scotland ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Speaking in a first interview with RangersTV, he said: “At the age I am now, and with the experiences I have had, I think I can bring experience to the defence, and I believe that I have got quality that I can show.
“Obviously there have been heights in my career where I have been at a good level personally, and I am desperate to get back there. I’ll do everything I can to make sure that I am.
“I know some boys who have been here before, and everyone always leaves with good memories and are still following the club, so it is good when you hear things like that. The badge speaks for itself, and it was exciting when I heard there was an opportunity to come here.
Reflecting on the past few years, including the move to Italy in 2024, Godfrey said: “Italy was a completely different culture and a new challenge for my family and I.
“I came out of it speaking Italian; I obviously didn’t get many minutes there, but it is a chapter in my life which I don’t regret.
“People learn different things at different stages of their life, and it is safe to say the past couple of years have been turbulent. The past couple of years has made me the person and the player that I am today.
"I can use these experiences that I've had to help the younger boys in the team, and hopefully my character and as well as stuff on the pitch can help the boys and the team.”
On what the supporters can expect, he added: “They can expect me to give 100 per cent every week and every day in training. That is the type of person I am, I like to lead by example, be front-footed and aggressive.”
With Godfrey joining the squad for training today, he is looking forward to getting going with his new teammates.
He continued: “When you join a new team you just want to get on the grass and meet the boys so you can feel a proper part of it.
“The past couple of seasons I probably haven't had a full pre-season, and you don't realise how much of an impact that has on your body or on your sharpness.
“To get in this early is really important for me and it'll give me the best platform to be at my best come the start of the season.”
