Cantwell: Beale Discussions Played A Massive Part

TODD CANTWELL says conversations with his new manager Michael Beale played a massive part in making the switch to Ibrox having joined the club yesterday from Norwich City.

The midfielder who moves on a long-term deal wants to leave a legacy at his new side and feels the club he is joining is one where the manager will be able to get the best out of him.

Speaking to the media the 24-year-old made it clear that his new boss was the deciding factor to making the move and feels he will be the man to get the best out of himself and the team moving forward.

He said: “It was the biggest factor in me coming here, the manager has known me for a long time which is important because he knows the type of person but also type of player that I have been for the last four or five years.

“He knows exactly what he was getting when he signed me, he has had a short senior management time but the amount of experience along his journey and for me being on the younger side of a footballer it is impeccable for me to get this relationship going.

“I think he can get the best out of not only me but the team as well.”

Having not played since November the midfielder wants to get back to enjoying his football and he believes making the move to Glasgow offers a new beginning in his career.

He continued: “Sometimes you just need a fresh start, and a new set of scenery, at Norwich it is the club that I came through at, and it is a club that I hold very close to my heart.

“I spent a lot of time there, it was very difficult but as a footballer you have quite a short career, it goes quite quickly, and I don’t want to look back with any regrets.

“When I spoke to Ross [Wilson] and the manager it was clear that this was the right move for me.”

The Englishman knows all about the club he has signed up for and believes the move is exactly right for the next step in his career.

He said: “I think I am aware of what I have signed up to, obviously it is a massive football club, and with that comes massive responsibility.

“For the future and where I was looking to move forward, I think it was the perfect fit”

With Cantwell offering a taster of what the Rangers fans can expect to see from himself with him potentially making his debut this weekend in the Scottish Premiership clash with St. Johnstone at Ibrox.

He continued: “I would some up my game as someone who is very passionate, someone that cares a lot about the result at the end.

“I am not obsessed with who scores the goals or who sets them up, which might sound strange as an attacking player, for me hand on heart the most important thing for me is being on the winning team.

“I will give everything I can, I think what you can expect in terms of what I actually do on the ball, I like to get on it a lot, I like to make things happen and spot a pass that maybe other people don’t and just get the team going in a rhythmic way.”
