CHRIS EADIE says he’s relishing the step up to the B Team and believes gaining experience in the SPFL Trust Trophy at such a young age can only benefit his development.
The 17-year-old forward was on the scoresheet last night in a resounding 5-0 win over Fraserburgh, adding the third of the evening for the young Gers.
He netted in the second half alongside fellow 2007-born duo Calum Adamson and Josh Gentles, with all three having played an influential role in the side’s run to the last 16 of the competition.
Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, a delighted Eadie said: “The step up has been really good and being able to challenge myself against better and bigger players.
“You need to learn how to deal with playing against bigger and stronger players.
“I feel like doing it at a younger age is going to make me more used to it when I’m older.
“[The physical challenge] was tough, but I enjoy the challenge and I deal with it quite well.
“It’s something that you need to deal with it because your age doesn’t matter when you’re playing up a level.”
Rangers were rampant from the get-go against their Highland League opponents and found themselves two goals to the good inside the opening 25 minutes.
It was possession certainly with a purpose for the Light Blues, who showed their professionalism to maintain their intensity throughout the 90 minutes.
Their reward is a last 16 meeting with Stenhousemuir next month, with Rangers the only B Team remaining in the competition.
Eadie said of his goal and display: “I saw the goalkeeper coming out and I thought ‘I can dink him,’ but I didn’t quite get enough on it.
“The ball just wouldn’t drop, and I just had to get something on it to get it into the goal.
“It was a really good night. I thought the team played really well and we were dominant for most parts of the game.
“We had to deal with them playing long in-behind, which was all that they had, and it was great personally to get another goal.
“We knew going into the match that we were going to control most parts of the game.
“We knew they would go long and we had to deal with that, and once we did it was about doing our thing on the ball.
“The next round? We want to go as far as we can and hopefully win it.
“For now, we just need to focus on the next round and take the confidence from tonight into that one.”
