Clement: Hoping For A Special European Night

PHILIPPE CLEMENT is hoping for a special European night at Hampden as his Rangers side look to progress to the UEFA Champions League play-off round tomorrow evening.

The Light Blues host Dynamo Kyiv in the third qualifying round second-leg, with the tie currently level at 1-1 thanks to Cyriel Dessers late equaliser in Poland last week.

Speaking to the media at this afternoon’s press conference, Clement is hoping for a strong backing at the national stadium. He said: “I hope it’s like Ibrox, I hope that the fans feel more at home after the first time at Hampden.

“For a lot of people, it will be their second time and hopefully we can create an Ibrox atmosphere in Hampden. It would be a huge achievement from the fans to sit a little bit further away from the pitch but still create the same atmosphere.

"I hope they can get there, and we are going to give everything on the pitch so that they are enthusiastic about things. That is our role to do, it is not a one-way street.

“It is two teams really at the same level, they have the advantage of playing together for longer, but our team did really well last week tactically, and it is not easy with new players.

"I was really pleased about that and scoring the last minute, it was a deserved goal so in the end we had more shots on target than them in the game and of course you want this goal faster but there is also a really good goalkeeper on the other side.

On his squad and the players available tomorrow, Clement says he will have some interesting choices ahead of the game.

He continued: “We have one doubt for tomorrow from the squad at the weekend that is Leon Balogun, he felt something at the end of the game, so he didn't train today. We will see how he is tomorrow.

“Everybody else came out of the game well, of course it is really short turnaround, today was the second day so it was a very calm training. It is about making the choices tomorrow with who to start and knowing for several positions I will need to change. It is about making good decisions for what you need in the beginning of the game, what you need at the end of the game, and also to think about extra time, for example so there are interesting choices to make.”

On what he expects from Kyiv in the second-leg, Clement continued: “We will do some different things, things we saw where we can hurt them with, and we put more focus on that.

“I don't know what they are going to do, maybe they are going to wait more, sit more and count on the counter attacks on the transitions, I don't know, but we need to be prepared for the different scenarios.

"They are a really good footballing team, we took out a lot by being compact and with a good pressing as a team last week but they are also really dangerous on set pieces and they are really good in the transition.”
