Danny Rohl: Delighted With Five Star Performance

DANNY Röhl says he was delighted with his side’s five-star performance and believes it highlights his squad's strength in depth in this evening’s 5-1 victory over Kilmarnock in league action.

Rangers scored four times in a rampant second half showing against ten-man Killie after Dominic Thompson was shown a straight red card inside three minutes for the concession of a penalty in which James Tavernier converted to open the scoring.

Bojan Miovski then doubled his side’s advantage, before there were further strikes from Andreas Skov Olsen, Oliver Antman and Mikey Moore.

Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, the Head Coach commented: “I think as a manager you think about how the game could look in the beginning, how we can finish the game, and what we need at first.

“I’ve said many times after the window closed we have a group together where nearly everyone can start. It’s the reason why we finished so strong.

“You need sometimes on 60 minutes players who have worked hard until a point then you finish with another five players on the pitch.

“It gives us a lot of opportunities and it shows there is big competition within the group. It’s what we need.

“We need to be strong in the training to deserve to be in the squad and to be a starter. It will increase our limit and our performance on the pitch. My players deserve a lot of flowers today.”

Röhl underscored the example of Tuur Rommens, who made his Gers debut and was a hugely impressive performer for the final 25 minutes as he teed up Antman’s first Ibrox goal.

Jayden Meghoma was a tireless performer down the left flank before he made way for the Belgian, with the German highlighting his strength in depth in that position.

He continued: “Jayden makes the first 60 minutes. He worked hard on the side, then sometimes it’s better to come on in some moments when you are fresh, come on with energy.

“Tuur showed in the last couple of weeks in the training sessions when he trained step-by-step to improve and develop.

“I’m very happy because we have nearly every position where we can double up with good quality and different profiles.

“Let’s work and stay more positive all together because this is also part of what we should do.

"Our expectations and demands are high enough and sometimes we forget where we were ten weeks ago.”

It was another big three points for the Gers, with their focus now shifting to Sunday’s Scottish Cup clash at home to Queen’s Park.

The fixture kicks off an exciting week for the side, who are also in league action against Motherwell and Hearts.

He added: “We need to be ready for the next game, which is on Sunday. We need to do our homework and we know what happened in the past.

“We need a professional performance again, then we have a tough week ahead with two tough games. Motherwell away who are a strong team, then we will see in the next game.

“We will do it step-by-step until the end of the season. We will not start to dream.

"It’s about being on the ground, working hard, putting everything in to do this season, then seeing where we are.”
