Danny Rohl: It's Our Job To Bring The Momentum Back

DANNY Röhl has encouraged his Rangers side to regain their momentum as they head into their final nine games of the season.

Attention turns back to Scottish Premiership duty for the Light Blues this Sunday, where they will make the short trip to Paisley to take on St Mirren.

Four outings remain before the crucial league split, and the German has urged his team to approach the remainder of the campaign by taking each as a cup final.

He commented: “It is our job to bring the momentum back in this final bit. I don't have the feeling that my players are really down, or in the case that they are scared for the next game, no.

“It is more about that we want to show in that next game that we can win again. I think this is the correct reaction and exactly what we need.

“These nine cup finals is for me crucial, and I see how we train and play, how we are connected and find each other. I see a step forward, and I see that we can win these games.

“At first, we have to do our job, to win games. Even I have not experienced this, but even in the split, the results will sometimes be tight and crazy.

“Everyone can beat everyone, and this is a good situation to reduce the gap.

“I think I have said this many times and said this to my players this week again, we have to do everything in the right direction.

“In football, sometimes everything is not enough to win games; there is no guarantee, but if you do everything, you have a big chance to achieve everything that we want, and this is what we need to do.

“We always want to control and dominate the game and want to take points, and this is our job on Sunday.

“We have to start on Sunday, and then it is game by game now.

“Let's see, at first we have four games before we go into the split.

“We need a good position, and then in the split I think everything is possible because this is also part when you look to our results, we took a lot of good points against the teams around us, and this should then be our goal.”

The Head Coach has given his assessment of last weekend’s cup exit and what the team have to change in the final third to be more ruthless to get back to winning games.

He continued: “When I watched the game back, there are so many details and patterns now of what you see on the pitch, against the ball, how we are connected more and more, even how we improved from the open play stuff compared to the first game seven days before.

“That was often part of the second half, we played too long, too often and gave them no challenge.

“In this game, we had more of a balance between short and long and then in the final third, when you look back at the chances, and this is in this case, sometimes you have to give credit to the opponent's defenders for how often they make the right block in the right moment to stop one action.

“Sometimes we blocked our own on the line, I think this is things we have to work on, we have to create more and more moments.

“To have more opportunities, and then I am sure we can score again and again.

“I think the parts were in the last couple of games that we conceded goals with less situations against us, and this is what we have to stop, and for this, it is good to go and lead. Keep the lead, be on the front foot, don't drop back and carry on.”

Röhl insists his side's approach won’t change when preparing for their now managerless opponents, as he analysed the options he has at his disposal for Sunday’s lunchtime clash.

He added: “At first, the old manager did a good job at St Mirren. I think they will carry on at the moment. I am not sure if they will change so much.

“I think there is a stability in this group of players. Of course, we were in the same situation against Aberdeen a couple of weeks ago.

“Focus on our own, we have to deliver, we have to play with our style and intensity. If we are ruthless and clinical in both boxes, then there is a great opportunity to take the next three points.

“[Mohamed] Diomande won't be available; he has a small shoulder injury. All the other players are so far so good. I have to make some decisions with the squad, but Dio is the only one who is not available.

“I have great centre-backs available at the moment. Everyone is ready, and for me, Nasser [Djiga] played an outstanding game.

“Both of them, Manny [Fernandez] and Nasser, were really strong.

“They won every one and one dual, we could play a high last line with them, very quick, also calm on the ball.

“Then I have John [Souttar], who gives the group experience. This is great, and this is good to have.”
