Danny Rohl: We Are Ready For The Challenge

DANNY Röhl says his Rangers side are ready for the challenge of facing Motherwell tomorrow.

In a crucial clash at Fir Park, the Light Blues will be seeking victory to continue an impressive domestic run of form which has seen them go unbeaten in their last 10 outings, including nine wins.

Speaking to the media, looking ahead to Wednesday evening’s Scottish Premiership clash, he commented: “I think in general now we are at a point where we have to deliver game by game.

“That starts tomorrow, it feels great at the moment that we have such a run, that we took a lot of wins, less conceded goals, we score goals, all these things that give us big belief and trust in what we are doing.

“Motherwell's clean sheet record? At first, it shows that they are doing an outstanding job there. I think the manager and the group are doing a good job.

“It is a tough place, and the home game was a game with a lot of chances on both sides.

“Both teams play with intensity and try something in the game. We know what we expect in this game, and for us, it is the next big challenge at a tough place.

“In the last couple of weeks, we are always ready for this challenge, and we took good results from these big games.

“Tomorrow is the next step, we go there with confidence, with ambitions, and we have to do a lot of things right to win such a game.”

The German says he feels a shift in mentality in his group when he took over, as they continue making strides towards a successful end to the season.

He continued: “I feel that we have confidence, I feel that we want to show where we are and what we can do on the pitch.

“I think in the last couple of weeks, when you go to, for example, Aberdeen, I think it's also a tough place, and we showed big character.

“I said this after the Hibs game, for example, even this point is important to take it, and tomorrow as well we go there.

“I feel the challenge of the group, and their connection is there, even the players that are not playing, they are really ready to hunt the other players that are in front at the moment. With this mindset, we should go and look forward more now; it is such a game.

“A couple of weeks ago, we were a bit too respectful, too feared, too scared for such games; now we are looking forward.

“It is about the performance on the pitch. We can speak a lot about where we are at the moment, but we have to deliver again and again. If you do this, then we have a great opportunity to make the next small step on our journey.

“I think this is our job as a coaching group, we try to give the players as many tools as possible to score goals, but also in the defence that we are connected.

“I think we have installed a different direction in how we press.

“We always try to give them a plan; we always try to give them clear instruction what we want to see. Then it is about my players, and at the moment, they deliver very well on the pitch.

“They take straight information, and I know you cannot compare teams with other teams, but we spoke after the Hibs game about what we have to improve, and three days later, we saw that we did exactly what we wanted.

“That gives me a good feeling, the challenge always as a manager is you work on one thing, but then don't forget the other things.

“Keep going and collect more, and I think this is really now a process of what we did in the last couple of weeks and months that we are building up our house, if you want, with the tools bigger and bigger, and that helps.

“Besides the content, the tactics, it is about the attitude, the mindset, confidence and trust in what we are doing.

“You can go in a duel with maybe winning it or not, or you go with 100 per cent, and that is a big difference, and this is what we tried, and this is what my players have done really well in the last couple of weeks.”

The Head Coach gave an update on his squad, with the likes of Youssef Chermiti and Emmanuel Fernandez back available after injury, insisting the competition for places within the ranks is driving the standards consistently.

He added: “Everyone is available except Max [Aarons], who will not be available for this game.

“All the other players are available; this is a good part. I have to make some decisions for tomorrow, who starts, and who finishes the game.

“I think this is also crucial, and it helps. Not just me to have these options, but it is also learning for my group, it means not when you are not starting, that you are not important, it is important for the group to have this impact from the bench.

“We have a game tomorrow, then we have a big one at the weekend. I always try to take the games as a single game, but then of course, my responsibilities as well, who is maybe a good fit for which opponent.

“I have two clear ideas for both games, but you never know in football if it's also possible then.

“At first, it shows my medical department is doing a good job. We come through the busy time in December, and that is not always easy.

“It was not always possible to take the same players because of this or that. It gives me more options; it gives the group more quality, and I like to have the squad together now.

“Not just about numbers, but I see more and more players coming now to 100 per cent, and I think this is the most important key: you have players, especially in the second half of the season.

“You need, in crunch time, your players on the perfect level, and if you have this, then you have a big chance.”
