David McCallum: We will learn from this challenge

DAVID McCallum believes that the B Team will take huge learning moments from a difficult cup tie against Ayr United this evening.

The Head Coach has outlined his satisfaction with the way the young Gers dealt with aspects of the challenging fixture tonight against a Championship side and insists that the boys will take massive learning benefits from it.

The B Team boss spoke exclusively to RangersTV after tonight’s 3-0 defeat against a Championship team in the SPFL Trust Trophy. He said: “It was a huge learning experience.

“That is probably one of the toughest games that we have had this season and we will take the most out of it, playing against a quality Championship team who have shown us a lot of respect."

“They made some changes at half-time in recognition of some of the play we had in the first half. It is certainly one of the games we will look at going forward and try to make sure we take as much out of it as we possibly can.

“This is only the second game the boys have lost this season and they showed the last time they can bounce back from that. Even after we lost the second and third [goal] you could see they still had a positive outlook on the game, trying to get forward and hurt the Ayr United defence.”

McCallum followed up by adding the benefit of having the first team manager and coaching staff in the stands this evening and how they will learn from their feedback. He continued: “It’s great to have the first team staff attend tonight’s game, they’ve shown a lot of attention to the group and they’re getting to know them a lot better. I think the message after the first half was that they were pleased with how we played, it’s always great to receive feedback like that.

“Over the next few days, we’ll continue to get more feedback from them and it’s important that the players understand what the staff are looking for.

“We’ll look at the key learning moments from this evening’s match. Ultimately, we’re trying to get our players into the first team, so the more that we can take from these games, the better that they will be prepared to take that step at some point.”
