Eilidh Austin: My Main Aim Is To Stay Consistent

EILIDH AUSTIN says she is taking every moment of her breakthrough season so far in her stride.

The youngster, who is a product of the Rangers academy system, has been involved in the first-team picture in recent campaigns but has become a real mainstay in the team since the appointment of Leanne Crichton back in the summer.

Speaking to the official club website following the conclusion of the final international break of 2025 and the side getting their Scottish Cup defence underway tomorrow afternoon, she said: “I am trying not to get too ahead of myself and just take it game by game and keep progressing.

Last season, I was maybe in and out of the team quite a lot, and I wanted to be more involved and stake a place in the team, and I think I have done that so far.

“Time at Motherwell? I wasn't playing a lot last season, and I think I definitely needed to go out on loan and just get my confidence and have a run of games in a team where I could play regularly. It wasn't one game in one game out, so it helped me massively.

“Working under Leanne? It has been really good; she has given me my chance in the team, and I've had a proper run of games, which has helped me massively.

“She has put trust into me, so I am trying to do my best to prove to her that trust was a good thing.

“You can see that she doesn't think that age matters, and if you are good enough, you are good enough to play.

“This season I have stepped up a bit more with my communication and trying to talk more and lead a bit more, which I think I needed to do.

“It is important, and I think it just shows that we constantly have talent coming out of our academy, and it is such a good thing that we need to keep utilising.”

Full-back Austin recently represented Scotland at Under-23 level in a friendly defeat to Belgium last week, as she reflected on the opportunities she is getting on the national front and her eagerness to continue to do so.

She continued: “It was good, we obviously didn't get the result we wanted, but it was good for me to start again and get another cap for the 23's, and I just want to keep pushing and hopefully get more.

“That was the whole point of the 23's that they wanted to test us and make it challenging, and we knew we could compete.

“I was hoping to take the form that I had recently at club into the 23's, and I hope that I can just keep doing that and keep progressing.”

The Light Blues begin their Scottish Cup campaign against Barclays Women's Championship side Renfrew Ladies tomorrow, as the defender says they must treat every side they face the same and has urged the team to end the year on a high with three outings remaining.

She added: “The game on Sunday, we just need to get into the next round, that will be the main aim, and we want to do that.

“The Motherwell game that we had before the international break was a full 90-minute performance, which we maybe really haven't had in recent games before that.

“The next two games before Christmas and the Scottish Cup, we need to show that we are building and we are getting better and progressing.”
