FINDLAY CURTIS has had to wait until Under-19s level to receive his first ever Scotland youth call-up, but the 18-year-old attacker says it’s certainly been worth the wait.
The 18-year-old marked his debut for his country with an assist in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Sweden at the Pinatar Arena in Spain.
The young Scots will square off against Poland tomorrow to round off their camp in southern Spain.
Speaking to the official Rangers website, Curtis said of his call-up: “I got the email beforehand – they send out an email before the squad is announced – and it was a proud moment for me, my family, and my friends.
“I didn’t really think there was going to be an Under-19s camp, so I thought I was going to get a week off.
“I’ve never been called up to a Scotland squad before; this is the first one.
“It was quite hard watching other boys get called up, but I just kept my head down, kept on working hard, and my reward has come.”
Curtis is joined in the Under-19s squad by Jack Wyllie and Connor Campbell, each of whom have impressed with Stevie Smith’s Under-18s side this season and are celebrating their first Under-19s call-ups themselves.
Midfielder Calum Adamson was also included in the squad but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
And 18-year-old Curtis says it’s a proud moment to be part of such a strong Rangers representation in Neil MacFarlane’s squad.
He added: “There’s so much talent in the squad. It was crazy to see the talent in the squad and I immediately started looking forward to it.
“They’ve been playing week in, week out with the Under-18s. It’s great for them and it’s another milestone in their careers.
“I always believe that the rewards will pay off if you work hard.”
