FINDLAY CURTIS says he’s hungry to continue his impressive goalscoring form after netting a hat-trick in tonight’s Glasgow Cup triumph over Partick Thistle.
The 18-year-old has hit the goal trail this campaign, netting twice in the side’s SPFL Trust Trophy success over Stenhousemuir a fortnight ago.
And he was among the goals once again this evening, netting a ten-minute hat-trick in the second half to ensure the young Gers kicked off their cup campaign in style.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, the hat-trick hero commented: “I’m delighted. A hat-trick is what I want, and I want to keep on scoring goals.
“It was a sloppy start from us, but we were ruthless in the final third and I’m buzzing off the hat-trick.
“I want to keep on scoring goals and getting my numbers up this year. I burst into the penalty box to get that third and fortunately it went in.
“I’ve scored 12 goals and got two assists in my last 15 or so games. It’s good and it’s just about getting my numbers up.
“The manager at first-team level always talks about his wingers getting in-behind, getting to the back post, and scoring goals.
“That’s what I’m trying to do and hopefully he recognises that.”
The Light Blues had to wait until the second half to find the breakthrough, but there was no looking back once the opener arrived through Ianis Hagi.
Curtis showed immense composure to net his first two goals of the evening, while his third came about after Hagi lashed a low delivery across the face of the penalty area and the teenager arrowed a first-time finish into the bottom corner.
The attacking midfielder says a half-time team talk from David McCallum and Malky Thomson was key to the side’s second half showing.
He added: “They wanted us to be ourselves. We showed plenty of energy, but it was just about the final bit and making sure we scored. Luckily, we did that in the second half.
“I just wanted to get in-behind playing off the left tonight. Most of the time the ball came to me and it’s brilliant to score three times.
“It was just about putting both into the bottom corner, and the third one was a first-time finish which was into the bottom corner.
“Chris scored the penalty which I thought he was going to give me for my third goal! But good on him scoring it, and it was good to score my third goal anyway.”
