Gerrard Gives A Positive Injury Update

RANGERS are gearing-up for the visit of Tommy Wright’s Kilmarnock to Ibrox tomorrow, and ahead of that, manager Steven Gerrard gave a positive injury update.

Scott Arfield, who has been missing since Boxing Day, is back in contention, while Jermain Defoe is also back in the pool.

Speaking at this morning’s press conference, boss Gerrard explained: "Scott Arfield trained yesterday with the group for the first time,” he continued, “and he trained again this morning, so we will make a decision on Scott later today.

"He has missed seven weeks, but he came back yesterday and was great to watch - he brought real enthusiasm and personality to the session and it is great to see him back smiling and really being close to being ready to go. "That is a big boost for us. Obviously, Kemar will miss the game and Alfredo [Morelos] will serve his last game.

"Jermain Defoe trained yesterday as well - Jermain has been out for two to three weeks now, so he is more ready and he will come into the squad tomorrow all being well today.

"So we are in a good place in-terms of the health and the availability of the squad, but obviously, we have still got a couple of suspensions we need to serve."

Gerrard also revealed the response to last weekend’s draw at Hamilton, adding: "We do the same as what we always do - we debrief the game, we analyse it, and we talk to the players and show them what we did right on the day and what didn't go well.

"I think it was quite clear we have come away from our level in-terms of that performance, and the players are aware of that.

"The players have been absolutely incredible up to this point and they have set a bar and a level that we know ourselves when we haven't performed to that, and that was quite clear against Hamilton.

"I am really looking forward to seeing the players perform tomorrow. They have prepared really well and their reaction has been good since the disappointment at the weekend - I think we also want to be very respectful to Hamilton who were fantastic on the day.

"But, it is all in the past - we need to move on from the result. We said it after fantastic wins and top, high-level performances to stay humble and not get too high and make sure you are ready for the next challenge.

"We will do the same when we have fallen a little bit below our standards as well. Tomorrow is a new game - it will be a tough challenge, they have got a new manager and normally a new manager finds a bounce.

"They didn't find that against Motherwell and we don't want them to find that against us tomorrow.

"But there is no doubt about it, Tommy is a really experienced, good manager, and at some point, he will turn Kilmarnock around.

"I do believe that, but we don't want that to be the start of that tomorrow."
