NICO Raskin and Belgium joined Thelo Aasgaard and Norway in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 following a quite dramatic comeback triumph over Senegal.
Summer signing Ivor Pandur, meanwhile, was among the substitutes for Croatia as they bowed out at the hands of Portugal earlier this morning.
Belgium were staring at elimination with four minutes to go, but goals from Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans, with Raskin introduced earlier in the second half, forced extra time.
The side were then awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time in extra time when Tielemans was fouled inside the penalty area, with the Aston Villa midfielder dispatching under pressure from 12 yards.
Raskin was a driving force in midfield in the second period, and he will join Rangers teammate Thelo Aasgaard in the Round of 16 following Norway’s progression over Ivory Coast on Tuesday.
Aasgaard was on the scoresheet earlier in the tournament against France – becoming the first Rangers player to score at a World Cup since 1998 – and his side will now square off in a mouthwatering clash against Brazil in New Jersey on Sunday evening, kick-off 9pm UK time.
Belgium, meanwhile, will return to Seattle for the third time in the tournament to face the USA on Tuesday, July 7, kick-off 1am UK time.
