Gers Present Revolutionary Reading Device To Fan

RANGERS have presented a revolutionary reading device to a Glasgow teenager which will help him live a more independent life.

Kyle Johnstone was at Ibrox Stadium this week as the Uddingston Grammar School pupil was presented with his OrCam MyEye Pro by Rangers legend Derek Johnstone.

The 16-year-old, who is partially sighted and also is challenged by dyspraxia and dyslexia, entered a competition which was run in conjunction with RNIB Scotland and OrCam Technologies.

As part of the club’s commitment to being inclusive to all, Rangers is the only football team in Europe to have purchased its own OrCam to help support it’s blind and visually impaired fan base.

Rangers’ groundbreaking diversity and inclusion strategy, Everyone Anyone continues to leave no stone unturned in the clubs desire to ensure each and every supporter feels welcome and part of our club.

The device aids fans when on club tours as it uses pioneering technology to read out loud printed and digital text from any surface.

Supporter Liaison Officer Greg Marshall said: “Being able to support each and every one of our fans is something that we care about and pride ourselves on.

“We will continue to do all that we can to improve accessibility within football for the blind and visually impaired community and believe that assistive technologies such as the OrCam MyEye Pro will help achieve this mission.”

Ian White, Sales Development at OrCam says: “It’s been fantastic to be part of such a positive campaign for the people of Scotland, made possible with the support from both the RNIB and Rangers Football Club.

“OrCam’s devices are continuing to change the lives of blind and visually impaired people all around the world, helping them to integrate into society, especially within educational settings and in the workplace, empowering them to be the best they can be.”

James Adams of RNIB Scotland added: “We are very keen that Rangers have got behind OrCam technology and are promoting accessible technology for people with sight loss.

“I am very pleased to see Rangers’ Everyone Anyone campaign which says that anyone, regardless of their background, can take part in Rangers Football Club and that is really heartening and a really important bit of leadership from the club.”
