GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst has backed the introduction of VAR in Scotland after two ‘vital moments’ in last night’s UEFA Europa League victory over Borussia Dortmund.
The Light Blues were awarded a penalty through VAR in the first-half, before an offside decision was overturned for Rangers’ fourth goal of the match.
Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s trip to face Dundee United, van Bronckhorst said: “I am really pro-VAR because it will help the officials to have a good game. If you look at the two decisions that were made yesterday, they were both vital moments and changing points in the game.
“You can imagine if VAR wasn't there we probably wouldn't get the penalty and also the fourth goal would be denied so it shows that at critical moments in games VAR can make it easier for the referees and also better for both teams.
The Gers boss says full-focus now turns to Sunday’s Scottish Premiership trip to Tannadice and says his squad will be prepared for a difficult match.
He continued: “We are all very proud of last night’s performance but today is a new day and another game is waiting for us and we are fully-focused now in preparing the team for Sunday.
“We know it will be a tough game but we need the points so we have to be up for the challenge. We have to make sure we keep putting the effort and energy into games like we have done lately and I think we have a big chance to get a good result but we have to work hard and be strong as a unit.”
