Gio: We Need To Keep Winning

GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst hopes Rangers can be clinical when they take on St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership tomorrow afternoon.

The boss says he can take a number of positives from Wednesday evening’s 1-0 victory over Hearts but challenged his squad to take their chances in front of goal in the final match before the World Cup break.

Speaking to the media at this afternoon’s pre-match press conference, he said: “It is the last game before the break for the World Cup and we need to keep winning and getting three points. That is obviously our aim and it is our goal to finish the first half of the season with a win.

“I see many positives from Wednesday in the way we tried to play, especially at the start of the game and the second-half. We showed our desire and our intention to go forward and had some really good chances to score more.

“It is very important to be clinical because we had so many chances but in the end we only scored once. It was an important goal because we won but it is definitely something we need to do better.

“The strikers will come in the positions and areas to score and I think we have to keep looking for those situations but it is very important for us as well that there is the support from midfield.

“In the last few games John Lundstram and Malik Tillman have scored so you want everyone to be dangerous in front of goal and both Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos have that threat.”

The boss will welcome Ryan Jack back into the matchday squad tomorrow but revealed the game will come too soon for Colak, who has picked up a minor muscle injury.

When asked about dealing with a low-block from St Mirren tomorrow afternoon, van Bronckhorst continued: “We have played so many games against teams who have a low-block and against St Johnstone we had many chances to score. I think the quality of our chances could've been better in that game but on Wednesday it was much better and we had good intentions and good attacks so that will be the same tomorrow against a low-block. St Mirren are a team who play really direct and they have strikers who can be dangerous in transition moments so we have to be fully focused throughout the 90 minutes to get a result.”
