Honouring Our Heroes – Remembrance Day At Ibrox

RANGERS FOOTBALL CLUB will proudly hold its annual Remembrance Day event at Ibrox on Sunday 8th November, commemorating those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

A large poppy will be placed on the centre spot prior to kick-off for a minute’s silence, and the team will be wearing special commemorative poppy shirts in honour of our fallen heroes.

A number of these will be donated to services related charities, and in support of the Rangers Charity Foundation’s Armed Forces Fund, to raise further funds for serving personnel and veterans.

As the Club and Foundation is unfortunately unable to welcome veterans to Ibrox for the game due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a number of free RangersTV viewing passes have been offered to Veterans related charities, including Poppyscotland and Erskine, so that veterans are able to become ‘virtual guests’ and enjoy the match from home.

To ensure that fans can still donate to Poppyscotland, an approved donation page has been set-up by the Renfrew Rotary, who usually organise the matchday can collection. You can access this by visiting @RangersPoppyRotary on Facebook.

Poppyscotland provides tailored support and funding to thousands of ex-Servicemen and women, as well as other vital services in advice, employment, mobility, respite, housing and mental health support. The charity reaches out to those who have served and those still serving, and also their families, at times of crisis and need by offering vital, practical assistance and funding.

Thank you to all fans who are sure to give generously to this virtual collection, which will help veterans in Scotland receive the care and support they urgently need.

Rangers Football Club and Rangers Charity Foundation signed the Armed Forces Covenant in October 2016 – a commitment to supporting the forces through services, policy and project.

This commitment to veterans and serving personnel was celebrated when the club and Foundation received the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award in 2019, becoming the first British football club and club charity to do so.

Work includes a range of initiatives, from supporting a number of service charities and providing community programmes for veterans via the Rangers Charity Foundation, to hosting an annual Armed Forces Day and activities around Remembrance Day.
