International Week Review

A NUMBER of Rangers players have been in action over the last few days for the group stages of the World Cup Qualifiers. Here’s our review on how those away from the club have got on so far…

Scotland – Nathan Patterson

Despite missing Scotland’s trip to Denmark due to self-isolation, the youngster featured in Steve Clarke’s line-up against Moldova on Saturday night. Patterson had quite the impact on the game after intercepting the ball and driving into the Moldavian final third, his strike was saved by the keeper, but Lyndon Dykes was on hand to retrieve the rebound and secure a single goal victory.

Nathan has travelled back to train at Achenowie whilst the Scotland the squad will now travel to Austria to face Franco Foda’s side in the final game before returning to club duty.

Northern Ireland – Steven Davis

Northern Ireland have started well in their group stage of the World Cup Qualifiers with Steven Davis captaining his side to a convincing 4-1 away win against Lithuania. The skipper played the full 90 minutes of the fixture, and the squad will return to Windsor Park for the next group stage game against Switzerland on Wednesday night.

Sweden – Filip Helander

Fil featured in the starting line-up for the Swedish side on Thursday night as they beat Spain 2-1 in the group stage of the World Cup Qualifiers. The squad now look to Wednesday night as they travel to face Greece in the next round of the qualifiers.

Finland – Glen Kamara

Glen was named in Markku Kanerva’s starting eleven in their goalless friendly against Wales on Wednesday. The squad will now look ahead to their next World Cup Qualifying group game against France on Tuesday night.

Croatia – Borna Barisic

Borna Barisic’s Croatian side drew 0-0 with Russia last Wednesday and beat Slovakia 1-0 on Saturday away from home. They now look to Tuesday night as they welcome Slovenia in their last qualifying group stage match.

Nigeria – Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun

Both Joe and Leon were named in the starting line-up for the Super Eagles in their winning performance of the World Cup Qualifier after beating Liberia on Friday. The Nigeria side now look to their next fixture against Cape Verde on Tuesday night.

Romania – Ianis Hagi

Ianis started for Romania against Liechtenstein in their group stage of the World Cup Qualifiers on Sunday resulting in a winning 2-0 performance and also providing an assist for the second goal. The Romanian team now look to Wednesday as they prepare to travel to face North Macedonia in the next fixture of the group stage.

Jamaica – Kemar Roofe

Kemar made his international debut for Jamaica on Sunday night against Panama. Despite a defeat for the Jamaican side, Roofe was delighted to make his debut and the squad now look to their next fixture against Costa Rica in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Scotland U21’s – Glenn Middleton, Kai Kennedy, Lewis Budinaukas, Lewis Mayo, Ben Williamson and Stephen Kelly.

Glenn Middleton, Kai Kennedy, Lewis Budinaukas, Lewis Mayo, Ben Williamson and Stephen Kelly have been selected for the Scotland U21’s squad as they face Turkey in the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers on Tuesday night.

Scotland U19’s – Leon King, Alex Lowry, Cole McKinnon, Jay Hogarth and Adam Devine

The Rangers B Team currently have five players away at the U-19 Scotland training camp.

Scotland U17’s – Greig Allen, Jacob Pazikas, Rory Wilson, Zak McKay

Greig, Rory and Jacob were all named in the starting line-up for the U17 friendly fixture against Wales on Thursday night where it ended in a 1-1 draw for the Scottish youngsters. In their second friendly against Wales on Sunday Zak McKay featured on the bench for the U17’s alongside Jacob Pazikas and Rory Wilson with Greig Allen in the starting eleven but unfortunately it ended in a 4-3 defeat for the young Scots.

Northern Ireland U21’s – Kyle McClelland

Kyle was a half-time substitute for the Northern Ireland U21 squad as they faced Malta on Friday afternoon. Despite a defeat for the youngsters, they now look to their next fixture against Slovakia in the Euro Qualifier on Friday night.

Northern Ireland U19’s – Lewis MacKinnon and Ross McCausland

Ross featured in the starting eleven of Gerard Lyttle’s side as they registered another win after defeating the Faroe Islands 1-0 in a friendly last week. Ross played well having a chance on goal during the game whilst Lewis featured on the bench for the U19’s.
