JO POTTER has praised her side for producing a ‘big three points’ as Rangers kept pace at the top of the SWPL table with victory over Glasgow City.
The Light Blues ran out 1-0 winners at Petershill Park this afternoon as they remain level with first place and only separated by goal difference with two games remaining.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game the head coach said it was important her team came out on top with the result also securing European football for the Gers next season.
She said: “It was a tough day; I think that the three points was the main thing for us.
“It was a scrappy game, I don't think the officials helped that, from minute one it was stop start, killed the game a little bit.
“The pitch doesn't help, we know coming here it is going to be difficult, when it was extremely dry today.
“We had to change our game a little bit, which I was proud of the players that they did.
“They stuck to task, managed the game really well in moments, up against some tough conditions so proud of the players and a big three points is the main thing for us.
“It is a huge achievement for us. Narrowly missing out on it last year was a disappointment so we wanted to make sure that was a must for us this year and getting Champions League is huge.
“These players deserve to be there and it is an exciting time for us moving forward.
“We have got a big week ahead and a cup final before that so all eyes are on that but definitely a big achievement and a well done to the girls for getting us there.
The former Lioness highlighted a strong defensive display for her team coming out on top whilst heaping praise on the match winner and her goalkeeper for a fourth clean sheet in row.
She continued: “We know she can do it. We have got special players in special positions for those moments.
“You saw Eilidh have a strike the other day which hits the bar.
“We have got good forward thinking players in defensive areas and we never want to take that out of their game.
“We know Rachel can do that and she has popped up with a special goal there.
“We ask our goalkeepers to stay concentrated and stay in the game for 90 minutes and Vic was excellent today.
“She kept us in games at moments, good decision making at big times and that can be the difference at times.
“It was a big defensive performance from us today, we stood up to the task and it was a difficult game we managed to come through.”
Rangers now switch their attentions to a trip to the capital to take on Hibs on Wednesday evening and Potter says full focus is now on their penultimate league game of the season.
She added: “It is a quick turnaround, Hibs played on Friday night so they have got a couple of extra days on us.
“We have got to make sure we are doing our work in a short period of time, but we are good for that.
“The players are excellent at being able to recover properly and switch mindsets to the next task in hand.
“It is going to be tough but every game is and we have got to make sure we are up for it and ready to go.”
