JO POTTER feels the Rangers representation in the Scotland national squad is a just reward for their start to the season.
The Light Blues have seven players in the squad with captain Nicola Docherty, Jenna Fife, Rachel McLauchlan, Kathryn Hill, Kirsty Maclean, Chelsea Cornet and Kirsty Howat for the Scots upcoming Nations League double header against the Netherlands.
The head coach feels those from her side involved have been giving deserved recognition from their country and says it is great to see the club so well represented in Pedro Martinez Losa’s squad.
She said: “It is fully deserved; we are looking at the squad and when it goes away that we want to have a really good representation in that squad.
“Having seven players go away I think is just testament to the girls. It just shows how well they have started the season and how well they have performed week in week out and how they are much deserving of a place in that squad.
“It just goes to show that when they do put in the work and they do perform week in week out that they get their rewards from it.
“That is a big thing for the players that when they are playing well they are getting that reward and they are getting that honour of being selected for their national team.
“It is really good sign that you are playing and performing well, you have got that consistency week in week out and you're getting your just rewards for it.”
The former Lioness feels having so many players involved will hopefully continue to evolve the players’ relationships on the pitch, as she highlighted both Hill and Howat for praise with the pair hopeful of winning their first caps during the break.
She continued: “That is something that you do see at international level. You look for those connections and you look for those players that play side by side week in week out, and if there is ever a question where you are unsure.
“That definitely plays into your hands of being able to maybe step in and know you are assured along somebody that you feel comfortable with.
“It is absolutely excellent; you can see at both ends of the pitch how they are doing their job brilliantly. I think that Kathy's performances have got better week in week out, it is always difficult at the start of the season to change a style and way of playing.
“As I keep saying it is testament to the players, they have really bought into that way of playing and really thrived under it.
“The performances that Kathy has shown and being able to take a game and keep us high up the pitch and sustain pressure in the opposition half as well as Kirsty managing to score the amount of goals that she has and she has assisted a lot of goals as well.”
The Gers also have several youngsters involved at Under-19 level for the Scots and the head coach feels gaining experience on the international front will only help for their development.
She added: “It is huge, we have some really good relationships with the coaches and the staff at both levels. We are getting good feedback all across all age groups.
“It is just testament to those as well that they are doing week in week out. Working really hard and then taking it onto that international stage, and putting themselves in a really good position to get noticed by senior internationals, by Pedro himself.”
