JOHNLY YFEKO says Rangers B are excited by the Old Firm challenge that awaits as the young Gers return to Glasgow Cup action.
David McCallum’s side have been victorious in both of their outings in the competition this season and make the short trip to Lennoxtown full of confidence.
Speaking to RangersTV before the clash, defender Yfeko commented: “We want to beat them and they want to beat us; there are bragging rights at stake as well. We want to go there and get the win.
“Every player wants to play in the derby, no matter at what level. It keeps you up at night. The Old Firm is one of the biggest rivalries in the world, so to be a part of it, even at B Team level, is great.
“Everyone here wants to win trophies, otherwise we wouldn’t be here. We’re always looking to get into the first-team to win and be part of a winning Rangers. But it all starts from here.
“Obviously we both have talent, otherwise we wouldn’t be here, but it’s about heart and who wants it more on the day. That’s what it’s going to take.
“At the end of the day, it’s a pitch, there’s a ball, and there are two teams with 11 players, so the best team is going to win.”
Yfeko has enjoyed a positive individual campaign having made his first-team bow at Ibrox in the Viaplay Cup earlier this season in a 2-1 win over Greenock Morton.
Indeed, the 20-year-old central defender has enjoyed regular training opportunities with Philippe Clement’s side this term, receiving the very best education alongside a team that boasts the best defensive record in the Scottish Premiership.
He continued: “There are so many senior players round there who give you little small pointers about where to go about.
“I think being round there has helped me a lot this season, and my hope is to stay round there and I continue to keep improving.
“There are about 20 players in the squad and you can learn something from every one of them. They all have their different attributes and game, and it’s on you to decide which ones you can add to your own game.
“The whole group of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun, John Souttar, and Jack Butland, have all helped me a lot since I’ve been round.
“There are a lot stuff that you can take from their game; if I play full-back I want to score like Tav, and if I play centre-back then I want to be able to hit a diagonal like Goldson.”
