Kathy Hill Signs One-Year Contract Extension

RANGERS Football Club are today delighted to announce that Kathy Hill has signed a new one-year contract extension.

The defender, who began her youth career with the Gers, the club she has supported all her life, rejoined the Light Blues for a second spell back in 2022 and will continue her stay with Leanne Crichton’s side ahead of the 2026/27 season getting underway.

Spending five years in Glasgow in her first stint, she moved to the other side of the Atlantic to join Old Dominion University in the USA, where she spent two years.

She then moved back closer to home when she made the move to English side Durham in 2017 where she spent five years before moving back north of the border linking back up with the Gers then managed by Malky Thomson.

In her first season back in Glasgow, she was named club captain and lead the side to Sky Sports Cup success for the first time in their history with a 2-0 success over Hibs in December the same year at Tynecastle.

Following the appointment of Jo Potter in the summer of 2023, she played a vital part in the team’s achievements as they successfully defended their Sky Sports Cup crown before adding a first ever Scottish Cup with a win over Hearts at Hampden, making 35 appearances for the team throughout.

Another cup double was to follow in the 24/25 campaign, with victories over Hibs and Glasgow City in the two competitions respectively before the appointment of Leanne Crichton at the club at the beginning of last season.

Following knee surgery she missed the entirety of the pre-season games programme but made her return on the opening day of the SPWPL, scoring the final goal in 6-1 win over Montrose at Links Park.

Injuries disrupted Hill’s campaign throughout the most recent campaign, as she featured in 19 outings in total but will look to make a return to full fitness for the start of the new league season beginning in August.

Speaking after signing a new deal, she said: “I am delighted to have committed my future to Rangers.

“Everyone knows how much this club means to me, so it was an easy decision for me to continue my career here.

“We have a lot of younger players and I see it as my role to help guide them going forward as well as helping Rangers win matches.

“The last campaign ended in disappointment, but we are determined to put that right next season by bringing trophies back to the club.”

Women’s Head Coach, Leanne Crichton, added: “Everyone knows what Rangers means to Kathy, and that passion and pride is clear every time she represents this football club.

“Although this season has been disrupted at times, Kathy has consistently shown just how important she is to the team whenever she has stepped onto the pitch.

“She is someone whose contribution can often go understated, but within our environment her value is recognised immensely. Her commitment, mentality and understanding of what it means to play for Rangers make her a hugely important part of this group.

“Kathy brings quality, experience and leadership both on and off the pitch, and I firmly believe she still has a significant role to play in what we are continuing to build at this football club.

“I am delighted she has chosen to continue her journey here at Rangers.”

Women’s and Girls’ Managing Director, Donald Gillies, also said: “Kathy is well deserving of a new deal with the club.

“She not only has the ability but the character to help lead the squad in her role as vice-captain. At a club like Rangers, you need winners and Kathy is certainly one of them.

“She has struggled with a calf issue this year, but similar to Laura, has been a tower of strength for the club and her teammates when unavailable.

“We look forward to her getting over that issue as we know she is a hugely influential and popular figure throughout the club and we are delighted she wants to keep playing for Rangers.”
